There are many options of birth control and they all work in different ways. Birth control methods also differ in effectiveness and have various benefits and risks.  These things affect how birth control is used, whether it will work with your body, or fit in with your lifestyle.  Consider these questions when talking to your health care provider about contraceptive methods:
  • Do you want to have children in the future?  How soon?
  • Do you want a method that provides monthly bleeding?
  • Do you have a preference for the Pill, Patch, Vaginal Ring, Condoms, Injections, Method placed in your Uterus, or Method placed under the Skin?
  • Do you experience monthly symptoms such as Cramps, Moodiness, Bloating, or Irritability?
  • Do you ever miss work, school, or other events because of severe premenstrual symptoms?
  • Are you concerned about acne?
  • Are you or your partner at risk for sexually transmitted diseases?
  • Do you or your family have a history of blood clots?
  • Do you smoke?
